Setting Up Your Brother Label Printer (Mac)

This guide walks you through setting up the Brother QL-810W label printer with your Mac and Daobook. From unboxing to printing your first prescription label, you'll be up and running in about 15 minutes.

What You Need

  • Brother QL-810W label printer — from around $216.95 AUD. We've found the best price at Inkstation

  • DK-11202 labels (62×100mm) — third-party compatible rolls work fine and are much cheaper. Compatible labels from Inkstation

  • A Mac with WiFi

  • USB cable — the printer includes one in the box. Even though the QL-810W is a wireless printer, a USB cable is required for the initial WiFi setup

  • USB-A to USB-C adapter (MacBook users) — the included cable is USB-A, so if your MacBook only has USB-C ports you'll need an adapter. Example adapter on Amazon AU

Step 1: Unbox and Power On

Take the printer out of the box and plug it in. The printer comes with a starter roll of labels, but these won't be the right size — you'll want to load your DK-11202 (62×100mm) labels before printing. Power on the printer using the button on the front.

Step 2: Download the Wireless Setup Wizard

Visit the Brother QL-810W Downloads & Drivers page. Select Mac as your operating system, choose your macOS version, and click OK.

Not sure which macOS version you have? Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of your screen and select About This Mac — your version number is shown at the top.

A list of available downloads will appear. Scroll down to the Utilities section and click Wireless Device Setup Wizard, then click Agree to the EULA and Download.

Step 3: Run the Wireless Setup Wizard

Once downloaded, open the file and double-click Wireless Device Setup Wizard to run it.

The first screen asks "Do you have a USB cable?" — select "Yes, I have a USB cable to use for installation" and click Next.

MacBook users: The printer uses a USB-A cable. If your MacBook only has USB-C ports, you'll need a USB-A to USB-C adapter — see the "What You Need" section above for a link.

Next you'll see an Important Notice about wireless network access — check "Checked and confirmed" and hit Next.

Now connect the USB cable between your printer and Mac. With the printer switched on, the wizard will automatically search for available WiFi networks.

Select your WiFi network and click Next. Enter your Network Key (this is your WiFi password) and click Next. Click Next once more to confirm the settings.

Once the wizard finishes connecting, it will ask you to disconnect the USB cable. Unplug it, and click Finish — your printer is now on your WiFi network.

Step 4: Verify the Printer on Your Mac

To confirm everything is working, open System Settings on your Mac and go to Printers & Scanners. You should see the Brother QL-810W listed under Printers.

Step 5: Set Your Printer in Daobook

- Click Print in the Daobook sidebar menu
- You'll see the Printer Settings section at the top of the page
- Under Printer Brand, select Brother
- Under Printer Model, select QL-810W
- The label size will show as 62x100mm — this matches the DK-11202 labels
- Your preference saves automatically

Step 6: Print Your First Label

- Find a prescription in the list on the Print page
- Click the Print dropdown button next to it
- Select Single Label (Front Only) or Double Label (Front & Back) depending on what you need
- A label preview will appear in a modal window
- Click Print Label — this will open the label as a PDF in your browser
- Press ⌘ + P (or go to File > Print) to open the print dialog
- Set Orientation to Landscape
- Under Paper Size, look at the top of the dropdown under Loaded Papers — select 62x100mm
- Click Print

Your label should print and auto-cut within a few seconds.

Tips

- Third-party DK-11202 compatible rolls are significantly cheaper than Brother branded ones and work just as well
- The printer auto-cuts each label after printing — no scissors needed
- If a label doesn't look right, check that your print scaling is set to 100% (not "fit to page")
